Definition:An autorun.inf file is a text file that can be used by the AutoRun and AutoPlay components of Microsoft Windows Operating systems. For the file to be discovered and used by these components, it must be located in the root directory of a volume.However,some virus comes with autorun.inf that infected your portable usb drive. Even you can see autorun.inf,somehow it cannot be deleted directly because it was change to system file.So,don’t waste your money to ask or buy an application to delete autorun.inf.This is because windows comes with command prompt that free to used.:)
Step 1 .Let say my portable usb drive have been infected with unknown virus when i used it from cybercafe.when i connected to my pc,there are pop up windows that not usually before.usually,pop up windows show,”run program from….”. So,the portable usb was infected with some virus..then,first step,do not open your usb.just cancel the pop up windows.
Step 2.click start button,type cmd on search box,and enter. after cmd program open,just type your current portable drive that was infected.Let say my portable usb was (F). so,i will type (F:) only in commamd prompt then press enter.
Step 3. type dir/ah .From picture below,you can see autorun.inf file was in my F: drive.
Step 4.we are going to change the attribute of the autorun.inf file. type attrib -s -h -r autorun.inf then enter.
Step 5. so the autorun.inf file now was not a system file,not hidden and not read only. then we can delete it. type del autorun.inf then press enter.
Step6.then type dir/ah again to check the file.if command prompt show file not found,it mean there are no autorun.inf file.remove your usb and reconnect again with your pc. now,your portable usb is cleen from autorun.inf.
*somehow virus comes with file name generic autorun.inf *after we delete autorun.inf, we can easily delete virus folder. for example my MMC card always infected with systemrestore virus.It make my pc ‘hang’. cause of that virus,it auto generate somehow file on my MMC card.So,after delete autorun.inf , i manage to delete that file.
